Bible verse of the Week: Genesis 2:15 “The LORD took the man and put him in the garden to till it and keep it.” Read! This week, read this story from Genesis 2:4b-9, and 15-19 with your family. This story is about God, and how God made everything out of earth.
“In the day that the LORD God made the earth and the heavens, when no plant of the field was yet in the earth and no herb of the field had yet sprung up—for the LORD God had not caused it to rain upon the earth, and there was no one to till the ground; but a stream would rise from the earth, and water the whole ace of the ground—then the LORD God formed man from the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and the man became a living being. And the LORD God planted a garden in Eden, n the east; and there he put the man whom he had formed. Out of the ground the LORD God made to grow every tree that is pleasant to the sight and good for food, the tree of life also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.
The LORD God took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to till it and keep it. And the LORD God commanded the man, “You may freely eat of every tree of the garden; but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall die.”
Then the LORD God said, “It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him a helper as his partner.” So out of the ground the LORD God formed every animal of the field and every bird of the air, and brought them to the man to see what he would call them; and whatever the man called every living creature, that was its name.”
Craft! Planter Box
Click the YouTube Video to view this weeks Craft Planter Box! In this week's video, Matt Vogel from Trinity Gardens teaches how to make a planter box, and how to care for your plants as they grow during the next few weeks! We will check how our plants are growing each week until it's time to harvest our carrots and radishes!
To make the planter box, you will need:
a stapler, glue, or tape. water
a pin or small knife
carrot and radish seeds (in the package we sent!)
soil (also in the package!)
a carboard, foldable take-out container (also in the package!)
Follow Matt's instructions on the video. He tells you:
1. Get out the cardboard container from your package. Fold the flaps in, until it stands up as a square box, like Matt does.
2. Staple, tape, or glue the outside flaps to the inside, so it holds together.
3. Have your parents help you make a very small hole in the bottom center of the box. This will keep your plant from being over-watered.
4. Empty the bag of soil into the box you just made.
5. Dig three shallow furloughs in your soil. A "furlough" is a hole dug in a straight line that gardeners and farmers make in the soil to plant their seeds.
6. Get out your seed packet and pour the seeds out somewhere they won’t get lost or smashed. The smaller ones are carrot seeds. Into each furlough drop the seeds; be sure to give them space, so they don't bump into each other when grow!
7. Cover the seeds up with some of the soil. Great job! You made your own planter box!
Listen to Matt in the video and he'll tell you how much to water them, and where to put your box so your plants will grow and be happy!
